  Designation of Origin "Navarra"

It encompasses wines that come from Navarra and covers an area of 11,500 hectares of vineyards. This wine region extends from the south of Pamplona (the capital of the community), to the Ebro river basin. Between wines with Designations of Origin, Navarra wines are an example of how this wine industry has evolved in recent times. Navarra, a traditional producer of red wines, rose and whites, was known almost exclusively for its rosé wines. This situation has changed and now is known for its wide range of products.

In Navarra occurs an exceptional situation, the confluence of the Atlantic climate, with the continental and Mediterranean climates. The closeness of the Cantabrian Sea, the influence of the Pyrenees and tranquility of Ebro Valley allow this varied climatology. There are five different production areas: Low Mountain, Valdizarbe, Tierra Estella, Ribera Alta and Ribera Baja.

In the 80's are introduced different foreign grapes like White Chardonnay, Red Cabernet Sauvignon and Red Merlot which begin to coexist with traditional grapes like viura, tempranillo and garnacha (that is the grape with greater presence and main protagonist of the area).

Bodegas Mel Melitus

MEL-MELITUS born of delusion, passion and love for quality wine. The name comes from the town of origin of the project, Mélida (Navarra).

We elaborate wine from old Garnacha 100% from the Low Mountain of Navarra (San Martin de Unx) with 8 months in French oak barrels.  In Mel-Mellitus we are "pro-Garnacha" because is a native variety and because offers aroma, freshness and it has the possibility of aging. Nothing is further from the unfair reputation that this variety has brought since years ago. So from Mellitus we make a serious bet with the Garnacha and our goal is simply: to offer funny wines without losing the idea of its origin and character.
