Designation of Origin "Ribera del Guadiana"
This Designation of Origin is located in Extremadura and occupies a surface of approximately 29,000 hectares of vineyards, is headquartered in Almendralejo and is subdivided into six divisions: Tierra de Barros, Matanegra, Ribera Alta, Ribera Baja, Cañamero and Montánchez.
The creation of the Designation of Origin Ribera del Guadiana marked the beginning of the great developments experienced in the last two decades of winemaking in the area, which has led to a transformation of viticulture and the production system itself, adapting to it the wineries, in search of increased quality of its wines.
The authorized grape varieties for white wines are: Alarije, Borba, White Cayetana, Pardina, Viura or Macabeo, Chardonnay, Chelva or Montua, Eva or Beba de los Santos, Malvar, Parellada, Pedro Ximenez and Verdejo, and for red wines: Red Garnacha, Tempranillo or Cencibel or Tinto Fino, Bobal, Cabernet Sauvignon, Graciano, Mazuela, Merlot, Monastrell and Syrah.
